5. Don’t Wrap the Unit in a Tarp

It feels protective, but a tarp traps moisture and can shred into the fan. If you want physical protection, use a manufacturer-approved cover or plywood secured properly — and only once the system is powered off.

After the Storm: What to Check Before Turning the AC Back On

The storm passes, the power comes back, and the first instinct is to crank the AC immediately. Wait a few minutes and check these first — it can save you a much bigger repair bill. Walk Around the Outdoor Unit

  • Is the unit sitting level on its pad, or has it shifted?
